Like an anti-bear I’m going to attempt to come out of hibernation. Enjoying life here on PEI and I’m about to embark on a very projects in what little spare time I have. Also hoping to get more involved with the IT crowd here on PEI.
Work is as ever busy… lots to do for various clients at Other Ocean Interactive
If you’re reading this now… you should be on a new server from Linode.com
I’m in the process of moving things around, so expect broken pages for a while. Not that anyone would be here to actually read anything important

If you’re an experienced programmer, you know me and you fancy a job at Other Ocean Interactive. Drop me a line. We’re after experienced coders…
Atlantic Canada is great…
Well I’ve been out in Charlottetown for about 2 months now. I’ve got myself a nice apartment sorted in a nice part of town and I’ve begun to fill it with the essentials. Charlottetown seems to be a nice place. It’s certainly smaller than I’m used to in Dundee.
Everyone at work has made me feel very welcome and have really helped me settle in. Backbone Charlottetown is no more. We’re now known as Other Ocean Interactive.  Exciting times for the company
This morning I got my letter of authorisation from the Canadian High Commission. So hopefully soon, I’ll be off to Charlottetown. Yay!
Right as you may of read I’m off to Backbone Charlottetown. To celebrate me leaving Dundee after 8 years, I’ll be having a pissup in Tallys Bar, Old Hawkhill, Dundee on Saturday the 24th of March. Probably from about 7pm, but I’ll be there anyway.
See you then

Well since the last update I’ve remained unemployed… well that was until Monday. I got a call from Backbone Entertainment. I’ve been offered and accepted a programming position with them out in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada.
So at the moment I’m running around like a blue arsed fly trying to get things at this end sorted. Where it leaves me with the Polis, I’m not sure
This week I’ll mostly be spending at home with my mum. So far since flying down on Thursday night, I’ve been down to my Aunts to see my cousin, her husband and there new child, Bethany. Seems very odd to think of my cousin, younger than me, yet with family. Everyone is doing well.
Life on the farm was as relaxed as always, although I had several thoughts of Dad and Lindsay on my mind. That kinda pissed me off a bit.
On the geek side, two new wireless networks are now working, one down on the farm and one in Burton.
A rather shit update I’m sure you’ll agree.

I’m still waiting to hear one way or another re the job with Backbone Entertainment. In the meantime I’ve been relaxing and sorting a few things out. Started to do some coding to improve my skills with Ruby. Have also been out a fair bit.
This weekend I’m heading home to go and see my mum and the rest of the family. Lucy and Ben have given birth to a beautiful baby girl Bethany. Mother and child doing well. It’ll be nice to see them. At the other end of the scale on Sunday the 8th it will be 9 years since my dad passed away. It’s gone very quickly and the memory is as vivid as ever. Not a nice experience.

I just hope I can take some of that memory with me if I have to deliver a death notice. Whilst I’m home I’m hoping to see a few friends and maybe pop in on Lindsay. Just depends what’s happening.
Well things didn’t work out with Tayside Police as a programmer. So I’ve handed in my notice. So I’m now free and wondering what to do. I’ve had an interview with Backbone Entertainment for a games job in Canada. Just waiting for them to get back to me. Fingers crossed.
Ties in the office are a waste of time. Discuss.

Lots of things have been happening of late. A couple of weeks ago I went to the Dundee university graduation ball with Lindsay. Had a great time, tis always nice to get dressed up. The sunday was spent in the pub (Still in suit) quaffing cocktails and eating a fry up at 10am before heading to the beer garden to watch live music and the England game before finally falling asleep.
Monday the 26th saw me start my new programming job with Tayside Police. Certainly looks interesting, lots to learn and do. Hopefully I can instigate at least a small amount of change to improve the software and hopefully make the lives of the cops that much easier.
The other week I found out that Bic Runga was going to be playing Dundee at the Westport Bar. So yesterday I ended up popping into Grouchos to get tickets for that. In the end I got tickets for that, the Guillemots and Hayseed Dixie.
Should be getting plenty of music with me working the Radio 1 Big Weekend. I’m really looking forward to it. I just hope the weather is good and that I’ll get a chance to catch some of the acts.
Interesting although slightly hard reading regarding the Shirley McKie case over at the BBC
Who needs the Radio 1 Big Weekend and Muse, when Dundee’s very own Ross Nicoll does such a good job

This is why I never wrap presents.
For those not in the know, BBC Radio 1, are bringing their Big Weekend Festival to Dundee. Should be a good event for the area. I’m certainly looking forward to working it. A few days ago I signed up to the mailing list so I could get the latest information direct from the horses’ mouth. Shame they can’t employ someone to proof read what they are sending to 1000’s of people. I frankly expected better from Auntie
Hello from all of us at Radio 1.
We've been very busy setting up Radio 1's Big Weekend.
We've confirmed most of the artists and the line-up is
looking very good. We cannot tell you who they are yet
but expect some big stars from the UK and America as well
as cool new bands.
Everyone we talk to in Dundee is very excited about the
weekend. As well as taking over Camperdown Park we've
got plans a big dance night in the city itself. In the
run up the weekend Colin and Edith are going to tour
around Scotland too.
Make sure you are listening to Radio 1 on Monday 24
April when we will announce the line up and give you
more information about how to get tickets.
Do you live in Dundee or have you been there? We want
to hear from you. We want loads of info, recommendations,
photos and video of Dundee on our website. If you have
a blog and you’ve wrote about Dundee send us a link. If
you'd taken photos and they are online send us the link
them or upload them to Flickr and add them to our group
(http://www.flickr.com/groups/radio1bigweekend/).
What we’d really like is short videos introducing us to
Dundee. If you can film your favourite place or thing
about Dundee send it in. You can upload them to a website
and send the URL or email us the video.
We are also looking for really good photographers and
music writers to come to Radio 1’s Big Weekend and cover
the event in their own way. If you are interested and
write a blog send us a link. If you have a photographer
and have photos online send us a link too.
Email all your links and details to radio1.bigweekend@bbc.co.uk.
Please remember we are unable to answer individual questions
about the event, line up and tickets but you’ll find out
all you need to know on our FAQs page:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/bigweekend06/faqs.shtml
Don't forget to listen to Radio 1 and check the website on Monday 24 April when all will be revealed.
In the meantime you can hear the special gig Red Hot Chili Peppers did for Radio 1: http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/presents/rhcp/ Enjoy Radio 1
Things are slightly in a state of flux at the moment. Once things have settled down I’ll do a proper update.
